Glimmingehus

On our journey from Ystad to Karlskrona we decided to visit Glimmingehus. It is a medieval era castle  and the best preserved one in Scandinavia. We were very happy we took the time to spend a couple of hours going through the different parts of the place. Here are a few of the pictures we took.

Karlskrona

In 1998, Karlskrona was included on the UNESCO World Heritage list  because it is an exceptionally well preserved example of a European naval city. GunBritt and I spent a whole day exploring this beautiful coastal town. The sky was blue and the temperature pleasant.  We started off walking along the harbor to the Maritime museum. There we learned about how the old warships were built and what kind of weapons they used. So much information! This museum is worth a visit for sure.

Ale stenar

Ale stenar  Ale stenar is the largest and best preserved ship setting in Sweden. The 59 stone boulders stand high on the Kåseberga ridge with a fantastic view of the sea. The ship setting is about 70 meters long and 19 meters wide. Each boulder weighs around 5 tonnes.  It was erected sometime between year 500- 1000. After the visit to this fantastic place we had a typical lunch meal for this area: Fried herring with mashed potatoes.

Ystad is the town where Wallander is a police officer in Mankells murder mysterious. Ystad is an old town with lots of old houses from 1200- 1700. We loved taking photos of them.
